I know you may be sick of us mentioning Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTDIT) but it IS going to happen.

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is a new way to report income from self-employment and property to HMRC. It will involve filing QUARTERLY returns rather than one annual one.

It is mandatory from April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with turnover over £50,000 and from April 2027, the threshold for mandation will be £30,000.

A few of our wonderful clients have agreed to act as guinea pigs and agreed to join the beta testing which starts this tax year. The first quarterly return is due by 7th August, and we can report that we have already filed MTDIT two returns successfully, both using Freeagent software.

If you wish to get ahead of the game and join the beta testing in this tax year, it is not too late. Just give us a ring and we can check the eligibility criteria and get it sorted.
